Police seize 400 illegal vapes in Ipswich operation

Officers from the Kestrel Team visited seven retailers in Ipswich Central on Friday, 6 June, seizing over 400 disposable vapes following the nationwide ban that came into effect on 1 June.

The details: The joint operation between Ipswich Police and Suffolk Trading Standards targeted local retail premises in the town centre.

Four of the seven retailers visited still had illegal stock on their premises when officers arrived.

What businesses must do: Retailers with remaining single-use vaping products must separate them from other goods, label them as unsellable, and remove them from shop floors or online stores until they are collected by a registered vape recycling service.

What's next: Anyone who suspects the illegal sale of disposable vapes should report it to Trading Standards on 0808 223 1133.

The bottom line: The swift enforcement action shows authorities are taking the disposable vape ban seriously, with retailers facing immediate consequences for non-compliance just days after the legislation took effect.
