Man resists arrest on Ipswich's Tavern Street after vape store robbery

Shoppers on one of Ipswich's busiest streets watched as officers struggled to detain a man who resisted arrest on Tavern Street this morning, as police conducted their investigation into a burglary at a nearby vape store.

The details: Officers and a forensics van were already on the scene outside the Vapebucks store on Tavern Street, after reports that a window had been smashed with a metal pole and a number of items were stolen at 2:46am.

Officers were seen inside the store taking statements from staff when, at around 10:40, two further police cars and a police van arrived at the same location. A man was subsequently arrested but resisted before being bundled into the back of the van.

His shoes, cap and what appeared to be a police evidence bag containing at least one vape were spotted on the floor next to the van as officers struggled to contain him. The man could be seen violently rocking the van as officers attempted to restrain and calm him.

What's next: It is unclear whether the arrest and the alleged burglary at the vape store are connected. Police have been contacted for comment.

The bottom line: A significant police operation played out in full view of the public on one of Ipswich's busiest streets this morning. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
