Ipswich man charged with murder after woman found dead

An Ipswich man has been charged with murder following the death of a 28-year-old woman whose body was found at a Russet Road address in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Why it matters: Paul Stevenson, 39, of Fletcher Road, Ipswich, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear before Ipswich Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Thursday, 12 March.

The details: Officers were called at 01:10 on Tuesday, 10 March, to concerns for the welfare of a woman at the Russet Road address. On arrival, they found the woman unresponsive. She was declared deceased a short time later.

A Home Office post-mortem examination took place earlier today, with the cause of death pending further investigation.

Stevenson was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Detectives subsequently applied for a warrant of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates' Court this morning and were granted an additional 29 hours to question him before charging him with murder.

What's next: Stevenson is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates' Court tomorrow, Thursday, 12 March.
