Man charged following Kesgrave cycle path stabbing

A 21-year-old man from the West Midlands has been charged after a stabbing on a Kesgrave cycle path earlier this week.

Why it matters: Police have now brought charges against the suspect in Thursday's stabbing incident, which led to the victim requiring hospital treatment.

The details: Yayha Luqmen, of Holyhead Road, Coventry, has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

  • Officers were called at 9:35am on Thursday, 1 May to reports of a fight involving two men on a cycle path near to Mead Drive.

  • The victim – a man in his 20s – sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment, but has now been discharged.

What's next: Luqmen appeared before Norwich Magistrates' Court yesterday morning (Saturday, 3 May), where he was remanded in custody pending a next hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday, 3 June.

The bottom line: The suspect was initially located and arrested in Norwich on Thursday afternoon before being taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, which has now resulted in formal charges.
