Young promoters bring MADMADMAD to St Stephen's Church for festival launch

A group of aspiring 16-25-year-old music promoters have organised Brighten The Corners' Festival Launch Party, taking place this Friday at St Stephen's Church in Ipswich.

Why it matters: The event showcases skills gained through Tune Up, a 10-week programme teaching young people marketing, event organisation and management for careers in the music industry.

The details: London post-punk electronic trio MADMADMAD, who have previously played festivals such as Latitude and Green Man, will headline the launch party at St Stephen's Church on Friday, 23 May from 19:30 to 23:30, supported by Gloop Unit, ahead of the main Brighten The Corners Festival on 13-14 June.

They are supported by Gloop Unit, a London-based four-piece band, combine folk, prog rock and electronic(a) in "a constant state of revolution," according to the event listing.

What they're saying: Tune Up participants have benefited from:

  • 10 weeks of industry training

  • Guest speakers including Paul Samuels (formerly of Sony record label)

  • Founders of "OFFSHOOT" tours sharing grassroots promoting experience

"I have enjoyed and learnt a lot from each session, all of the speakers have taught me a lot and it's been amazing to spend time with like minded people," said 17-year-old Kieran Holland, one of the programme's participants.

For context: Brighten The Corners is a not-for-profit organisation that runs year-round live music events across three Ipswich venues: The Baths, St Stephens Church and The Smokehouse.

Coming up: The fifth annual Brighten The Corners Festival will be headlined by Dry Cleaning on Friday 13 June and Bob Vylan on Saturday 14 June, with over 40 emerging artists performing across multiple venues.

The bottom line: Tickets for the launch party are available at brightenthecorners.co.uk/events/madmadmad, while festival information can be found at brightenthecorners.co.uk/festival.
