Sip'swich drinks trail extended until 31 May after high demand

The popular drinks trail run by Ipswich Central will continue for an extra month, giving you more time to collect your stamps and claim free merch.

Why it matters: The successful scheme has already distributed 4,000 cards and generated "tens of thousands" in additional spending in town centre bars, with some venues seeing up to half their trail participants as first-time customers who often return for repeat visits.

What's new: Organisers Ipswich Central and Ipswich Borough Council have now extended the Sip'swich trail until 31 May after feedback that many participants needed more time to complete both trails and claim their prizes.

What they're saying: "The trail was planned to last until the end of April and we know hundreds and hundreds of people have been taking part," said Lee Walker  from Ipswich Central . "Demand for the prizes has grown steadily in recent weeks, however we've had feedback that many people haven't had time to complete both trails and claim their limited edition eco-friendly reusable cups."

The details: The initiative launched in March 2025 features:

  • Fifteen bars and pubs across the town centre

  • Two engaging trails – one showcasing dog-friendly establishments and another highlighting fascinating historic Ipswich facts

  • Three collectible prizes: a limited-edition enamel pin badge featuring Wolsey's gate, a quality reusable coffee cup with handy carrying bag, and a dog bandana

The impact: Local businesses are thrilled with the boost the trail has provided.

"The launch of Ipswich's Sip'swich trail has been absolutely fantastic for us," said Chris Evans from Three Wise Monkeys. "Being dog friendly is something we are very passionate about and it has helped spread the word. Daily visits of our four-legged friends has made us all very happy!"

Ed Barnes from Hopsters on St Nicholas Street added: "It's been a great success at our end and I welcome the extension."

How it works: Participants enjoy collecting stamps by purchasing drinks at participating venues – including coffee, soft drinks, wine and cocktails, not just beer – making the trail perfect for families and friends looking for a fun day out in Ipswich.

The bottom line: With sunny weather and extra time to complete the trail, it's an ideal opportunity to explore Ipswich's vibrant hospitality scene while earning unique merch. Full details and downloadable trail cards are available at www.allaboutipswich.com/sipswich/.
