Rail services from Ipswich cancelled with "minor disruption" expected as debris blocks line

Some Greater Anglia services between Ipswich and London have been cancelled after debris became caught in overhead electrical wires. The disruption comes as Storm Darragh approaches the region with winds of up to 45mph forecast.

The details:

  • The disruption is affecting the main line between Ipswich and Colchester

  • The 07:04 service from London Liverpool Street, due to arrive in Ipswich at 08:26, terminated at Colchester

  • The 08:43 from Ipswich will now start from Colchester, missing stops at Ipswich and Manningtree

  • Several other London Liverpool Street services were cancelled on Friday morning

It's unclear when tracks will be cleared and normal service will resume

Background: This disruption follows earlier problems on Thursday night and early Friday morning, when fallen trees blocked the line between Witham and Braintree.

Weather warning: The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as Storm Darragh approaches. Suffolk could face strong winds of up to 45mph between 15:00 on Friday and 06:00 on Sunday.

Bottom line: No timeline has been given for when debris will be cleared or services restored. Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling as more trains could be cancelled.
