The details: Damian Davies, 36, of no fixed address, was charged with multiple offences following his brief freedom from Hollesley Bay Prison on Thursday, 17 July.
His first target was a house in Hollesley, where he smashed a window in a door to gain entry and stole a bicycle, clothing and food.
The following morning at around 01:15, Davies struck again – this time breaking into the Post Office in Carr Street, Ipswich. He smashed the glass doors to gain entry and made off with vapes, sweets and drinks.
Just over two hours later at 03:35, police received another call reporting that a man had gone into the River Orwell near Regatta Quay before getting out and walking along the pavement.
Officers located Davies and arrested him on suspicion of burglary and absconding from prison.
What's next: Davies appeared before Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 19 July, where he was remanded in custody. His next hearing is scheduled for Monday, 18 August at Ipswich Crown Court.
