Tameside Police are searching for the next of kin of Allan Shaw, a 75-year-old man from Ashton Under Lyne who died at his home last week.
Police in Greater Manchester believe Mr Shaw has a son living in Ipswich and are appealing for information to help locate him.
The Police Coroner's Office is asking anyone with information to contact them on 0161 856 7978.
The appeal was issued by Tameside Police yesterday as part of their efforts to find Mr Shaw's next of kin.
