Police seek driver after hit-and-run at Ipswich zebra crossing

Police are appealing for witnesses after a car struck a bicycle at a zebra crossing in Grimwade Street and failed to stop at the scene.

Why it matters: Police need to trace the driver of a dark-coloured car that failed to stop after a collision with a bicycle in central Ipswich. While no injuries were reported, failing to stop after an accident is a criminal offence.

The details:

  • The incident occurred at about 17:00 on Friday 17 January on Grimwade Street

  • A male pedestrian was pushing his bicycle across a zebra crossing when a car reportedly accelerated and struck the back wheel

  • The vehicle is described as small and dark in colour

  • Police believe the partial registration number could be AW13

  • The driver left the scene without stopping
