Police make 30 arrests in week-long county lines crackdown

Suffolk police have arrested 30 people and seized multiple weapons, including firearms, in a week-long operation targeting county lines drug dealing. The operation, which ran from 25 November to 1 December, also resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of drugs and cash.

Why it matters: County lines drug dealing continues to be a major concern in Ipswich, with criminal gangs exploiting children and vulnerable adults to transport and sell illegal drugs across police boundaries.

The big picture: The week-long initiative was part of a national operation across England and Wales focusing on:

  • Reducing child exploitation linked to drug dealing

  • Identifying vulnerable people at risk

  • Disrupting drug supply networks

  • Community engagement and education

Suffolk police have arrested 30 people and seized multiple weapons, including firearms, and drugs in a week-long operation targeting county lines drug dealing

By the numbers: Across Suffolk, police seized:

  • Nine weapons, including a firearm and an imitation firearm

  • 120g cocaine

  • 5kg cannabis

  • 1kg ketamine

  • £8,800 in cash

  • 6 drug-line phones

What they're saying: Chief Inspector Anna Powell said: "We have had some excellent results, with a high number of arrests, with drugs, weapons and cash seized, but more importantly, we have engaged with people of all ages and shared the signs of what to look out for."

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore added: "Removing this scourge from Suffolk is a top priority for all agencies and in particular our police force."

Between the lines: The operation went beyond enforcement, with officers conducting:

  • Welfare checks at properties at risk of "cuckooing" - where drug dealers take over vulnerable people's homes

  • Educational sessions at schools and colleges

  • Visits to night-time venues and hotels

  • Engagement with taxi and fast-food companies to help spot signs of exploitation

The bottom line: While the operation resulted in a number of arrests and seizures, police emphasise that community awareness and vigilance remain crucial in the ongoing fight against county lines drug dealing in Suffolk.
