Police confident Woodbridge Road stabbing on Friday night was targeted attack

Suffolk Police have moved to reassure residents after a stabbing in Woodbridge Road on Friday evening, stating there is "no wider threat to the local community."

Why it matters: The incident, which saw a at least eight police units storm a property on Woodbridge Road, has raised concerns about violence in the area, but police believe it was an isolated incident between people who knew each other.

The latest: Two men, aged 23 and 28, were arrested on Friday evening following the assault, which left a man in his 20s with a stab wound. Both suspects have been bailed until 31 January 2025.

Details:

  • Officers were called to Woodbridge Road at about 19:00 on Friday 22 November

  • There was a large police presence on Woodbridge Road with at least 8 units in attendance

  • The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

  • Police say the suspects and victim were known to each other

What they're saying: Superintendent Andrew Martin highlighted Ipswich's progress in tackling serious crime: "Ipswich has made exceptional progress in recent years seeing a continued reduction in these crime types."

What's next: Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV, doorbell camera or dash-cam footage from the Woodbridge Road area on Friday evening.

Bottom line: While police are treating the incident seriously, they are emphasising it appears to be targeted rather than random violence, with Supt Martin describing the force's approach to serious violence as "relentless."
