Why it matters: The authority has a statutory duty to deliver effective domestic and commercial waste collections across the borough.
The details: Executive members of Ipswich Borough Council unanimously agreed to spend the money during a meeting on Tuesday, 13 January.
Cllr Philip Smart, the lead for the environment and transport, said the funds would ensure the council has enough supply of bins and bags to carry out its duties.
In total, the council expects to spend £637,450 over the next three financial years, until the end of March 2028.
Broken down, this means £527,440 will be spent on bins, while £110,010 will go toward bags. It equates to roughly £4.20 per household per year.
The bottom line: The investment ensures Ipswich residents will continue to receive uninterrupted waste collection services over the next three years.
