Ipswich firm's employee-first culture earns national recognition

A commitment to investing in people has helped Ipswich-based Kilnbridge earn a place among the UK's 500 best employers, according to the Financial Times – the highest ranking of any specialist contractor in the country.

Why it matters: The Financial Times Best Employers 2026 list is compiled in partnership with Statista and based on around 20,000 anonymous employee surveys across multiple industries. Kilnbridge's 176th-place ranking makes it not only the highest-ranking specialist contractor but also the third highest-ranking construction-focused business on the list.

The details: The recognition follows what the company describes as its strongest financial performance since becoming an Employee-Owned Trust. As an employee-owned group, Kilnbridge operates across multiple sectors, including national infrastructure, buildings and clean energy.

What they're saying: Owen Dannatt, chief executive officer at Kilnbridge, said: "Being recognised by the Financial Times as one of the UK's best employers is something we're extremely proud of, because it reflects the honest views of our people and our wider market reputation."

He added: "As an Employee-Owned Group, we've worked hard to build a culture where high standards, trust and opportunity go hand in hand. This recognition reinforces our belief that when you invest in people, you create a stronger, more resilient business. Our people are our most important asset, and I'd like to thank everyone across our sites and offices for their continued commitment and contribution."

The bottom line: Kilnbridge's ranking is a mark of recognition built from the ground up – shaped not by management, but by the honest views of the people who work there every day.
