Why inclusion is good for business, and how to make it work

A new conference coming to Ipswich this March aims to give local employers practical tools to embed diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into everyday business practice – and make the case for why it matters to the bottom line.

Why it matters: Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) is proven to benefit both people and productivity, yet many businesses lack the practical knowledge to embed it effectively. People and Productivity: Embedding Inclusion for Better Business aims to change that for employers across Ipswich and Suffolk.

The details: The half-day conference takes place at The Hold on Wednesday, 11 March, from 09:00 to 13:00. It forms part of Ipswich Borough Council's Ipswich Business Thrive Festival and is organised in collaboration with University of Suffolk Unlocked Events.

The event promises a range of talks, workshops and panel discussions, along with a keynote speech from a nationally recognised DEIB leader.

Who's behind it: The conference is a collaboration between two leading Suffolk DEIB specialists – Elma Glasgow, founder of Elma Glasgow Consulting, and Sarah Arch, founder of DisMantle Initiative – alongside the University of Suffolk's Research and Knowledge Exchange team.

The bottom line: Billed as a "first-of-its-kind" event for Ipswich and Suffolk, People and Productivity aims to offer employers a supportive space to explore how embedding inclusion can create better workplaces – and better business.
