Hundreds of unsafe Halloween decorations seized at Felixstowe port

Trading Standards officers have seized more than 460 dangerous Halloween inflatables at the Port of Felixstowe. The electronic decorations, which were destined for sale on Amazon, lacked essential safety markings and warnings.

The big picture: Suffolk Trading Standards' Imports Team detained 464 outdoor Halloween decorations after finding they failed to meet UK safety standards.

Why it matters: The inflatables posed serious risks of electric shock, fire and injury due to inadequate safety information and missing crucial safety markings.

The details:

  • The consignment included 11 types of electronic decorations including trees, pumpkins, and Halloween characters.

  • None of the items carried required UKCA or CE safety marks.

  • Products lacked manufacturer details, model numbers and voltage ratings.

  • Instructions were deemed inadequate for safe use.

What's next: The unsafe goods, which were imported from China, will be destroyed and their Amazon listings have been removed.

Be smart: Trading Standards advises anyone who believes they may have purchased an unsafe product to:

  • Stop using it immediately

  • Report it to Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133
