The big picture: Dr Hester, who retired in April 2024 following a glittering career, has sadly passed following a months-long illness.
Over 36 years at Adnams, Dr Hester worked her way through various roles, including procurement, logistics and customer services, before becoming the Southwold brewery's first female executive director in 2015.

A stellar career: Her achievements were recognised with several prestigious awards:
2008: Named East of England Businesswoman of the Year
2013: Won the CBI First Woman in Business Award
2015: Awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Suffolk
What they're saying: Dr Andy Wood OBE DL, who worked closely with Dr Hester, said: "Throughout, she was a wonderful colleague and a source of inspiration every day. Her wise counsel, compassionate leadership, sense of humour and approach that always saw her put other's needs before her own set her apart in the world."
Beyond business: Dr Hester's commitment to public service extended beyond her corporate role. She served as both a magistrate and chair of the charity Independence Matters.
Her colleagues at Adnams remembered her as "not just a colleague, but a mentor and a friend to many," praising her "warmth, wisdom and unwavering dedication."
What's next: A service celebrating Dr Hester's life will be held at St Peter & St Pauls Church, Wangford on 12 February at 13:00. Those wishing to make a donation in her memory are encouraged to support Cancer Research UK.
The bottom line: Dr Hester's remarkable rise through the ranks at Adnams, coupled with her dedication to both business and community service, leaves a lasting legacy in Suffolk's business community. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and former colleagues.
