Why it matters: The bank holiday initiative aims to introduce 20,000 new people to the sport across the UK, with two Ipswich venues participating in the nationwide event.
The annual celebration, running from 23-26 May, provides a free opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to try bowls in a welcoming atmosphere.

By the numbers: Over 800 clubs have signed up nationwide for the fifth annual event, including eight in Suffolk.
Roundwood Bowling Club (IP4 4HL) will host sessions on Monday 26 May from 10:00-16:00, while Ipswich Bowling Club (IP1 3QE) will offer taster sessions the same day from 14:00-17:00.
What they're saying: Commonwealth medallist and Bowls England Board Member Sian Honnor said: "Bowls has so much to offer as a sport, it really is something that everyone can get involved in. Bowls' Big Weekend is always a brilliant weekend to showcase what our sport has to offer."
"People should definitely get down to their local clubs and give bowls a go, and who knows, we might uncover some future talent for the England squad."
The bigger picture: Bowls England, in partnership with Aviva, has introduced more than 60,000 people to the sport since launching the Big Weekend initiative.
Jon Cockcroft, Bowls England Chief Executive, described the sport as one that "brings family and friends together and makes people healthier and happier".
For context: Bowls is particularly accessible for those with low mobility, with Cancer Research UK collaborating with this year's event to support a game that has been "a lifeline for many going through cancer treatment".
The bottom line: Free taster sessions are now open for registration, with a full list of participating clubs available on the Bowls Big Weekend website.
