An elderly woman is in critical condition after being rescued from a ground floor flat fire in Ipswich during the early hours of Friday morning.
The big picture: Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service responded to reports of a fire with people trapped inside a flat in Shetland Close at 02:28 on Friday.
What happened:
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning ground floor flat
They rescued one elderly woman and provided first aid until paramedics arrived
Three fire engines attended – one from Ipswich East and two from Princes Street stations
What's next: An investigation into the cause of the fire is due to take place later today.
The bottom line: Emergency services mounted a swift response, with firefighters, paramedics and police all attending the scene. The rescued woman remains in hospital in critical condition.
