Dragon boats set to make a splash on Ipswich Waterfront in less than three weeks

The popular annual Dragon Boat Race returns on 7 June with over 30 teams competing in a high-energy waterfront contest.

Why it matters: The event raises vital funds for Brave Futures, a charity supporting children and young people across Suffolk and Norfolk who have experienced sexual abuse.

The big picture: Teams will battle it out on the water in colourful dragon boats, each with 10 paddlers and one drummer, while spectators enjoy a day of entertainment along Ipswich Waterfront.

What's happening: The race begins at 10:00 on Saturday, 7 June, transforming the waterfront into a vibrant festival with live music, performances, street food and games.

What they're saying: "This event is about so much more than racing – it's a powerful show of community, courage, and collective support for the children and young people we work with," said Sandra Lucas, Corporate and Events Fundraiser for Brave Futures.

Get involved: It's not too late to enter a team – no experience necessary, just a sense of fun and willingness to make a difference. Contact Sandra Lucas on 01473 375025 or email sandra@bravefutures.org.

For spectators: Entry is free, with everyone welcome to attend, cheer on competitors and learn more about the charity's work.

The bottom line: With less than three weeks to go, the event promises an exciting day of competition and community spirit in support of one of the region's most important causes.
