Cosy Club in Buttermarket closes after nine years of trading

The café, bar and restaurant shut its doors permanently on Saturday due to the location not being "financially viable".

Why it matters: Cosy Club in the Buttermarket shopping centre took the "very difficult decision" to close on Saturday, 31 May, after nine years of trading in the town centre.

This is only the second Cosy Club the company has ever closed, but leadership deemed it not financially viable to continue trading at the Buttermarket location.

What's next: Loungers, who run Cosy Club, confirmed that the Marinero Lounge is still set to open in Ipswich's waterfront on 2 July.

The new venue will be located in the former Burton and Sons warehouse.

The majority of Cosy Club staff will be staying with Loungers and relocating to work at the new Marinero Lounge, which will be the company's first Lounge in Suffolk and its 258th Lounge in the UK.

The details: Cosy Club had a lease in place until 2032 but has now shut down its Ipswich location page, with Google showing the bar as permanently closed.

All Cosy Club Ipswich social media channels have also been shut down.

The company expressed disappointment at closing the location and thanked staff for their professionalism and customers for their support over the years.

The bottom line: The closure marks the end of Cosy Club's nine-year presence in Ipswich town centre, but the majority of jobs will be preserved through the new Marinero Lounge opening in July.
