Cable fault leaves Ipswich residents in the dark until morning

UK Power Networks expects to restore power by 10:30 today after an underground cable failure affected homes in the Castle Hill area since last night.

Why it matters: The unplanned power cut impacted one-third of properties in the area, according to the power company's alert sent at 22:28 yesterday.

The details:

  • A fault occurred on an underground electricity cable affecting homes in the Castle Hill area, primarily around Henley Road

  • It originally affected around 40 properties

  • Power has since been been restored to all but 11 homes in the area

What's next: Engineers are currently investigating and fixing the issue. The company estimates power will be restored between 09:30 and 10:30 today, though they note "some customers may be back on sooner."

For context: UK Power Networks sent text alerts to affected customers last night to notify them of the outage. The timeframe for repairs "may change and be extended depending on our investigations and the work involved to resolve the issue."

The bottom line: Affected residents can get live updates on the situation via the UK Power Networks website at http://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/power-cut/incident?incidentid=INCD-505915-Z. Priority Service Customers needing additional support can call 08003163105.
