Why it matters: The incident occurred on a busy waterfront route where people regularly walk to and from work throughout the day.

The details: The brick fell from the building during ongoing remedial works on Regatta Quay.

  • Rubbish can be heard constantly going down a chute at the site, as well as hitting the side netting that is supposed to prevent debris and rubble from falling below.

  • No one was hurt in the incident, but the brick narrowly missed one pedestrian, according to witnesses.

  • Workers at the site have since removed the fallen brick and debris from the pedestrianised street.

  • It is not known which contractor is carrying out the remedial works.

What they’re saying: "I saw someone walking ahead of me who had to dodge a brick falling from above," said a person who walks through the waterfront on their way to work. "This is a really busy street throughout the day – it could have seriously hurt someone."

The bottom line: A brick falling from building works at Regatta Quay nearly struck a pedestrian on the busy waterfront route.
