Brave Futures forced to postpone Dragon Boat Race due to weather safety concerns

This weekend's charity Dragon Boat Race in Ipswich has been rescheduled to Saturday, 27 September, due to forecasted high winds and thunderstorms.

Why it matters: The event raises vital funds for Brave Futures, a charity supporting children and young people across Suffolk and Norfolk who have experienced sexual abuse.

What's happening: The charity announced the postponement yesterday, citing safety concerns for the more than 30 teams expected to compete on Ipswich Waterfront.

"We're sad to say the weather isn't on our side this weekend, with forecasted high winds and thunderstorms," the charity said. "For everyone's safety (and to avoid any surprise swims!), we've made the decision to reschedule our Dragon Boat to Saturday, 27th September."

The details: All team entries will automatically roll over to the new date. Organisers have contacted team leaders by email and are making follow-up calls to ensure all participants are informed of the change.

The charity has asked supporters to help spread the word about the postponement through social media. Sponsors Cory Brothers have donated a prize that will be randomly awarded to someone who shares the update.

What they're saying: "We know how much effort has gone into this already, and we're so grateful for your energy, commitment and fundraising," Brave Futures told participants. "We want to give you the brilliant day you deserve, filled with sunshine, smiles, and strong paddle power!"

The bottom line: Safety concerns have forced the postponement, but the charity remains committed to delivering the waterfront fundraising event that brings together over 30 teams in support of vulnerable young people.
