Bourne Park the latest Ipswich park to receive outdoor gym equipment

The latest installation brings the total number of free outdoor fitness spaces in Ipswich to seven.

Why it matters: The addition expands free fitness options for residents as Ipswich Borough Council continues to implement its Play Area Strategy 2022-27.

The details: The new outdoor gym features four pieces of equipment:

  • Two cross trainers

  • A chest press

  • A fitness bike

All equipment includes usage instructions for visitors and has been strategically placed next to the paddling pool and play area on the park's east side to ensure community-wide accessibility.

What they're saying: Councillor Lucy Trenchard, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Parks and Climate Change, says: "The new fitness space is a welcome addition to Bourne Park to our residents and visitors. Completed just in time for spring, the new equipment offers the community a perfect start to their outdoor fitness routine in the fresh air, free of charge within the beautiful surroundings of the park."

For context: This installation joins existing outdoor gyms at Castle Hill, Christchurch Park, Fen Bight Circle, Maple Park, St Augustine's Green and Whitehouse.

The bigger picture: As part of the installation process, a large lime tree stump was relocated elsewhere in the park to continue providing a valuable habitat for insects and wildlife.

The bottom line: Bourne Park now offers residents a free, accessible option to exercise outdoors while enjoying one of Ipswich's many green spaces.
