A14 remains closed westbound near Ipswich after car fire

The A14 is closed westbound between Sproughton and Whitehouse following a vehicle fire that broke out at 11:40 on Friday morning.

The details:

  • Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service responded to the car fire with two fire engines

  • Crews from Sudbury and Long Melford attended the scene

  • Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using a hosereel jet

  • Three people were in the vehicle but did not require medical treatment

  • They have been advised to seek precautionary medical checks

The impact: The westbound carriageway remains closed while crews clean up spilled oil from the incident. The Environment Agency has been notified about the spillage.

The bottom line: Drivers are advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes while the clean-up operation continues. National Highways has not yet provided an estimated reopening time.
