Welly wanging and rodeo bulls raise £10,000 for charity
Fourteen Suffolk businesses swapped the office for Trinity Park this year, taking on egg and spoon races, a rodeo bull and a straw-and-sticky-tape bridge-building contest to raise over £10,000 for Home-Start Suffolk.
Why it matters: The money raised will help Home-Start Suffolk, an independent charity, continue providing support to families across the county who are struggling in silence behind closed doors.
The details: Now in its fourth year, the corporate event saw over 120 staff from 14 local businesses compete for the title of Suffolk Sports Day 2026 champions.
The day included:
- Traditional sports day races: an egg and spoon race, a three-legged race, a space hopper race and an unconventional relay race
- A team building challenge to construct the longest freestanding bridge from straws and sticky tape, with quiz questions earning teams extra straws
- A game of rounders
- Individual challenges including climbing, golf putting, welly wanging and a rodeo bull
Sona Insurance were named this year's Suffolk Sports Day champions.
What they're saying: Tara Spence, chief executive at Home-Start Suffolk, said: "Fundraising events such as this help us to continue opening doors for local families who may otherwise struggle alone.

"We are very grateful to all 14 businesses who took part in this year's Suffolk Sports Day, as well as our volunteers, supporters and sponsors whose generosity helped make the day possible, particularly main event sponsors, MSC.
"The atmosphere at Suffolk Sports Day 2026 was incredible, with everyone having a ball all day long, staff and volunteers included. This event is for people from local businesses to come together and have a fun day of team building in aid of their local community and we are thrilled it was such a success.
"The teams were all very competitive in trying to become champions, so a huge congratulations to Sona Insurance who were this year's winners, claiming the title of Suffolk Sports Day 2026 champions."
