Why it matters: The incident, which took place at around 22:00 on Friday, 19 June on Fircroft Road, left the victim with open leg fractures described as life-changing. Two further men were arrested on suspicion of drug supply offences at the same time.

The details: Emergency services were called to reports of a serious collision outside the Co-Op on Fircroft Road at just before 22:00. Police say the incident followed an earlier altercation between the victim and the occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo.

It is reported that the driver deliberately drove at the man, trapping him against a wall, before the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. It is believed the parties are known to each other.

The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he remains in a stable condition.

What's next: A short time after the incident, officers arrested two 20-year-old men nearby on suspicion of attempted murder. Two further men, both aged 20, were also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs. All four have been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre to be questioned by detectives.

Fircroft Road has since reopened.
