Two men arrested in Ipswich town centre on drug charges
A man riding an illegal e-bike and a second man who tried to flee were both arrested on suspicion of drug supply as Ipswich's Town Centre Team carried out weekend patrols.
The details: The arrests were part of a wider weekend police operation in Ipswich town centre.
- One man was stopped while riding an illegal e-bike. Officers said his account "was full of holes," and a search found him carrying multiple phones and a large quantity of class A drugs. He was charged and remanded straight to court.
- A second man was arrested by the force's CPT colleagues after intelligence suggested he was involved in drug supply. He tried to run from officers but fell before being detained. A strip search found him in possession of a large quantity of class A drugs.
- Separately, officers attending a shop for a routine licensing visit found a large amount of illegal tobacco hidden under the counter. It was seized and destroyed, and the matter has been referred to Trading Standards.
What they're saying: Ipswich Police's Town Centre Team said: "We will continue to patrol the town and tackle criminality," and asked residents to let officers know about any issues they think the team should be aware of.
The bottom line: Officers say the weekend's arrests reflect their ongoing efforts to disrupt drug supply in Ipswich town centre.
