Tacket Street car park flips back to Q-Park – again

Why it matters: Drivers using the site have faced two changes of operator in less than a week, with signage and payment systems switching back and forth as the transfer between NCP and Q-Park continues to cause confusion.

The details: Signage at the car park is being changed over again, with the same team that took down the previous signage a few days ago now putting up new Q-Park branding. Workers said the site's cameras are still "in transition", but that drivers who parked up earlier in the day should not worry too much.

The big picture: Tower Ramparts car park has not seen the same changes. NCP signage remains in place there, no signs have changed, and the site is still listed on the NCP app. However, a Tower Ramparts parking spot has now also appeared on the Q-Park app.

What they're saying: One car park user told Ipswich.co.uk: "I feel confused and stressed. I've not known what app to use. I've not known how to pay. As a student I don't have the money to be fined."

For context: Q-Park had originally been due to take over Tacket Street and Tower Ramparts car parks from 1 August, after National Car Parks Limited (in administration) confirmed it would cease operating both sites. However, both car parks reverted back to NCP days later, with an NCP attendant describing the situation as "a serious mess".

NCP was placed into administration on 16 March 2026, with PwC partners Zelf Hussain, Rachael Wilkinson and Toby Banfield appointed as joint administrators.

The bottom line: Tacket Street's Q-Park app is back up and running, though signage and cameras are still catching up after a chaotic week for the car park.
