Suffolk's first-ever Festival of Nature
Suffolk Wildlife Trust is launching the county's first-ever Festival of Nature, with events spanning music, literature, visual arts and history taking place across Suffolk from 20 September to 11 October.
Why it matters: The three-week celebration, developed in partnership with local businesses and organisations, aims to bring communities together and encourage people to engage with the wildlife and natural environment on their doorsteps.
The details: The festival will launch at Seckford Theatre with celebrated illustrator Angela Harding, whose work has been inspired by Suffolk's landscape and wildlife.
"Suffolk's rich wildlife has long been a source of inspiration for my work; from wading birds along the River Deben to swifts soaring through summer skies," said Harding. "It's a pleasure to see how Suffolk Wildlife Trust are bringing together art, community and nature in a three-week celebration through the Festival of Nature and I'm delighted to be speaking at the festival's launch event on Sunday 20 September."
What to expect: Jesse Jacobs, senior marketing and brand officer at Suffolk Wildlife Trust, said the festival would offer something for everyone.
"Join local artists for creative workshops, delve into the microscopic natural world with mesmerising projections, discover how nature influences writers, and play nature-themed video games," he said.
"Other events planned include immersive sound baths, sound installations, drop-in creative and discovery sessions, and even an evening of dance."
The bigger picture: The festival forms part of Suffolk Wildlife Trust's mission to encourage one in four people in the county to take meaningful action for nature.
All events will be open to the public and Suffolk Wildlife Trust members, with many being free or low cost.
