Suffolk primary school places confirmed for thousands of families
The vast majority of families in Suffolk have secured a primary school place for September, with results released on National Offer Day last week.
Why it matters: Suffolk County Council received 6,762 applications for primary school places starting in September 2026. Of those, 99% of children were offered a place at one of their three preferred schools, with 94.75% offered their first choice.
The details: Families who applied online can log in to the council's online service today to view their offer. Those who applied by post will receive a letter sent by second class post today.
If you did not get your first choice: Sarah-Jane Smedmor, executive director of Children and Young People's Services for Suffolk County Council, said: "We understand that not all families would have received a place at their preferred school. If this is the case and a parent or carer's preference for a Suffolk school has been refused, their child's name will automatically be added to the waiting list for that school. Parents and carers will also be advised how to lodge an appeal should they wish to do so."
What's next: Once school places have been confirmed, families should consider how their child will travel to and from school. Those eligible for Suffolk County Council-funded school travel will receive an email by 8 May 2026 with details of how to opt in.
The bottom line: The vast majority of Suffolk families have secured their preferred primary school place, but those who missed out can join waiting lists or appeal.
