Why it matters: The festival has become one of Ipswich's most popular annual events, drawing more than 5,000 visitors each year and bringing together communities from across the town and beyond.

The details: The free festival is organised by award-winning charity BSC Multicultural Services in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council. Organisers say this year's event will be the biggest yet, with an expanded programme featuring local, national and internationally recognised artists.

Visitors can expect:

  • A stage line-up of live music and dance
  • International food from around the world
  • A children's funfair and family activities
  • Traditional sports including Kabaddi
  • Face painting, henna art and community stalls

What they're saying: Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: "We're delighted to once again support this year's One Big Multicultural Festival, which has become a firm favourite in Ipswich's events calendar with something for all ages – residents and visitors alike."

He added: "Our town's rich diversity is one of its greatest strengths, and this festival is a fantastic opportunity to come together and celebrate everything that makes Ipswich such a vibrant and inclusive place."

For context: BSC Multicultural Services says it supports people from more than 50 nationalities in Ipswich each year.

What's next: Details of performing acts will be released on the festival website in due course at www.ipswichentertains.co.uk/multicultural-festival.

The bottom line: With an expanded programme and growing audience, the One Big Multicultural Festival is shaping up to be a key date in Ipswich's summer calendar.
