New Sunday arts sessions for SEND children in Rushmere
A new weekly performing arts session run by Little Voices Suffolk is giving children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and the parents and carers who support them, a place to sing, act and make music together.
Why it matters: The sessions give children with SEND an inclusive activity they can enjoy alongside their parents and carers, and offer families a chance to meet and support one another in Ipswich.
The details: Little Voices Together runs every Sunday at 10:30 at Rushmere Community Hub.
- Each hour-long session includes 45 minutes of singing, music and drama, adapted to each child's needs and interests.
- This is followed by 15 minutes of tea and coffee, so families can get to know each other.
- Parents and carers stay throughout, and groups are small and arranged by ability.
- The venue is fully accessible, with a changing area.
What they're saying: Evie Capon, principal of Little Voices Suffolk, said: "So many families I've met have a child who has been turned away from an activity or they simply can't find an inclusive activity for them."
"I wanted to create somewhere they could walk in and feel like they belong, and that goes for the parents as much as the children," she added. "The chat over a cuppa at the end matters just as much as the singing and the acting, because that's where families find support."
One family said: "Our foster child attends Little Voices Together sessions and already is thriving and understanding the routine of the session."
The family added: "She is able to recognise the current song we're learning and signs along at home."
The child, who is non-verbal, uses her TalkPad to ask to go dancing, which the family described as "massive" for someone who struggles with transitions and leaving the house.
The bigger picture: Evie spent four years as a support worker for people with SEND before opening Little Voices Suffolk, an award-winning performing arts franchise, in 2024. That experience shaped how the Sunday sessions run.
- Little Voices Suffolk also runs weekly classes in Kesgrave, Stowmarket and Trimley for around 50 children aged four to 18, taught in groups of no more than eight.
- Its classes have a 100% pass rate in London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) exams.
- In 2026, Evie won the Disruptive Franchise Awards' Next Gen Award for franchisees under 30, and she is also a winner of Theo Paphitis's Small Business Sunday.
What's next: Families can register interest online and book a free trial to see whether the sessions are the right fit for their child. Evie is also keen to hear from families, schools, SENCOs and alternative provisions across the Ipswich area.
The bottom line: Little Voices Together aims to give children with SEND somewhere to perform and their parents and carers somewhere to connect, with a free trial available for families across the Ipswich area.
