New operator to take over two of NCP's Ipswich car parks following administration
Q-Park will take over NCP's Tacket Street and Tower Ramparts car parks from 1 August, after the troubled parking giant confirmed it will cease operating both sites as part of its ongoing administration.
Why it matters: The move affects two of the five car parks NCP operates in Ipswich, following the company's collapse into administration earlier this year. NCP says it has shared "limited elements of the data" it holds with Q-Park "to ensure service continuity where possible."
The details: National Car Parks Limited (in administration) has told customers it will stop operating a number of sites across the UK from 1 August 2026, including Ipswich Tacket Street and Ipswich Tower Ramparts. Other affected sites include car parks in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Colchester, Dundee, Gloucester, Hemel Hempstead, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Shrewsbury, Truro and Wolverhampton.

For context: NCP was placed into administration on 16 March 2026, with PwC partners Zelf Hussain, Rachael Wilkinson and Toby Banfield appointed as joint administrators. At the time, NCP operated five car parks in Ipswich – Tacket Street, Tower Ramparts, Portman Road, Ipswich Rail Station and Cox Lane – providing a combined 1,088 spaces.
The administrators said NCP's difficulties stemmed from commuter habits that had not recovered since the pandemic, combined with "long-term, inflexible leases" that prevented the company from cutting costs or exiting loss-making sites in line with falling revenues. All sites remained open at the time, though administrators warned closures could not be ruled out.

The bigger picture: Q-Park operates more than 5,500 parking facilities across the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, the UK, Ireland and Denmark, comprising over 1.2 million spaces. The company says it has more than 15 million customers across the UK and Ireland.
What's next: It is not yet clear what will happen to NCP's other Ipswich car parks – Portman Road, Ipswich Rail Station and Cox Lane – which are not included in the list of sites transferring to Q-Park. Ipswich.co.uk has approached Q-Park for comment on the transition and will update this story with any response.
