Man arrested after Carr Street rooftop incident

A man has been arrested and taken to hospital for treatment after coming down safely from the roof of a building on Carr Street in Ipswich town centre, Suffolk Police have confirmed.

The details: The man is understood to have accessed the roof of the building after forcefully entering via the Magazin Românesc Maestro butchers on Carr Street at 02:20 on Tuesday, 18 August.

Suffolk Constabulary, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, and the ambulance service all attended, with a fire and rescue crew gaining access to the roof from the high street.

Carr Street was closed to the public while the incident was ongoing.

The man came down from the roof just before 09:00 and was arrested by officers before being escorted to hospital for treatment.

Police later confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage.
