Local artist's ITFC mural unveiled on Princes Street

Why it matters: The mural, now installed on Princes Street ahead of the club's first Premier League home game of the season, was created by a life-long Ipswich Town supporter and chosen by fellow supporters themselves.

What they're saying: Lloyd, who runs Glory Days Artwork, said the mural drew on a quote from club captain Dara O'Shea: "'Us and our people' was a quote by captain Dara O'Shea that stuck in my head at the end of last season. I really wanted to show club legends, celebrate the diversity of the town, plus show iconic moments like Terry Butcher playing for England and Russell Osman in the Escape to Victory kit with this in mind."

He added that one detail took longer than the rest to get right: "Wolsey's gate took a lot of time to get the bricks right, but needed to be on there. It was all drawn digitally and took a few months to get to the final design. It looks great and I'm really happy with it."

The details: The competition attracted 30 entries in total.

• Eight designs were long-listed for Ipswich Town's Fan Advisory Board, which chose a final three to put to a public vote.
• 4,500 fans and season ticket holders voted for their favourite, with 47.76% (2,149 votes) backing Lloyd's design.
• The mural was installed by Hudson Signs on Friday, 21 August, in time for the club's first home match of the season on 22 August 2026.
• Lloyd won £2,000 in prize money from Ipswich Central as part of the competition.

The bigger picture: Steve Flory, chair of Ipswich Central, met Lloyd and his family at the mural shortly after installation. He said: "This new piece of public art is wonderful. Encapsulated by a local artist and life-long ITFC supporter, it's just what everyone involved wanted to see. Congratulations Brad, for creating the 'Us and our people' mural for the town."

Andrew Wood, chief revenue officer at Ipswich Town FC and an Ipswich Central board member, said: "We are delighted that so many supporters are now able to see a piece of art which represents all that's good about Ipswich Town. It's a fantastic addition to matchdays at Portman Road and to the town in general. Congratulations to all involved."

Ipswich Borough Council painted the hoardings blue ahead of the installation, while Hudson Signs printed and installed the final artwork. The original competition was announced by Ipswich Town in January 2026.

The bottom line: A design rooted in club history, local pride and one supporter's own passion for Ipswich Town now stands on Princes Street, chosen by the very fans it was made to represent.
