Ipswich's first wood-fired Turkish kitchen opens on Tacket Street
Wood-fired soups, Turkish pizza and a smoky open kitchen — Elfida Restaurant opens its doors in Ipswich town centre.
Why it matters: Ipswich has a new family-run restaurant at 16 Tacket Street, with manager Berhat Durmaz, 26, saying the town needed more sit-down places to eat. The restaurant's specialities are Turkish soups and Turkish pide, a traditional boat-shaped flatbread often referred to as Turkish pizza, cooked in a large wood-fired oven.
The details: Elfida is a restaurant with a small team and one key point of difference: everything is cooked in a large wood-fired oven. Durmaz manages the restaurant alongside a business partner who brings more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

The big picture: The building on Tacket Street was formerly a three-floor nightclub. After being purchased in 2021 and renovated from January this year, it has been transformed into a spacious dining room with a black-and-gold finish. Diners can catch a glimpse of the kitchen and its large oven from their seats.
What they're saying: Elfida is not a suit and ties restaurant, says Durmaz — the food is homemade, and the atmosphere is relaxed.
The bottom line: Whether you are after a wood-fired pizza or a bowl of Turkish soup, Elfida is open daily from 08:00–23:00, from today.
