Ipswich Town FC to open new club shop in the Buttermarket
A long-vacant shop unit in the Buttermarket is set to be brought back into use next month as Ipswich Town prepares to open a new Planet Blue store in the former Superdry premises.
Why it matters: The new store will give fans a place to buy official club merchandise in the heart of the town centre, while filling an empty unit in the Buttermarket shopping centre.
The details: The store is expected to open in early November.
- "Planet Blue Official Club Store" signage and a golden Suffolk Punch have gone up in the windows, alongside hand-drawn scenes of Ipswich landmarks, including the Wolsey Theatre.
- The Ipswich Town crest has also been mounted on dark panelling on the shopfront.
- Inside, dedicated kit sections have been fitted, along with a price board for shirt personalisation.

By the numbers: Personalisation prices on display in the store are:
- Name and number (up to 12 letters): £15
- Premier League sleeve badge: £6
- Short number: £7.50
For context: A team of artists has also transformed the walls opposite the store with a large mural featuring a golden Suffolk Punch with a football at its hoof and the words "Us and Our People".
- The artwork is set against a backdrop of hand-drawn town scenes.
- It is the work of street art company Murwalls. Founded in autumn 2019 and led by founder and chief executive Marc Silver, the company brings together a team of artists and creates officially licensed artwork with global brands, as well as murals for businesses, charities and community organisations.
What's next: The club says an official opening date will be announced in due course.
The bottom line: Ipswich Town is set to open a new Planet Blue store in the Buttermarket next month, bringing a long-empty unit back to life. With the shopfront branded, the interior fitted out and a new mural completed opposite, the project is nearing completion, and fans can expect an official opening date to be announced in due course.
