Ipswich to host its first-ever TEDx event this October
The University of Suffolk has been awarded a licence to host Ipswich's first TEDx event, bringing the globally recognised platform for ideas to the town for the first time on Thursday, 1 October.
Why it matters: Ipswich residents will hear directly from six researchers whose work could shape the future of Suffolk under the theme "Building a better Suffolk", with each speaker given 15 minutes to present their ideas to a live audience. All talks will be recorded and uploaded to the TEDx YouTube channel.
The details: The event runs from 17:30 to 20:30 at the University of Suffolk, with doors opening at 17:00. Tickets will be available in August and cost £10 each, though numbers are capped at 100 by TEDx rules.
Speakers will be drawn from University of Suffolk researchers, alumni, former staff and external researchers, with a panel chaired by Professor Emma Bond, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, selecting the final six.
What they're saying: Professor Bond said: "Hosting a prestigious TEDx event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the fantastic research taking place in Suffolk and for our speakers to share their ground-breaking work to show how it is making a real difference to people's lives and the world we live in."
The bottom line: Ipswich's first-ever TEDx event is a chance for local researchers to put Suffolk ideas on the world stage and for residents to hear how that work could change their lives.
Want to speak? Researchers with a Suffolk connection who would like to be considered can submit a 300-word abstract and a one-minute video outlining their talk via the speaker application form. The deadline is Friday, 1 May, and successful applicants will be notified by the end of May.
