Why it matters: Mohammed Ahmadzai, of Peterhouse Close, will be subject to strict monitoring and restrictions for the next 10 years, including GPS tracking of his movements, after admitting six offences involving indecent images of children.

The details: Ahmadzai had earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and three counts of distributing indecent images of children.

He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work. He was also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.

He was arrested at his home address on 14 January 2025 after police received intelligence suggesting he had uploaded indecent images of children to the internet. His mobile phone and other electronic devices were seized for forensic examination.

The forensic examination identified:

  • Three Category A videos
  • Four Category B videos
  • Two Category C images and one Category C video

There was also evidence that Ahmadzai had shared some of this material via WhatsApp.

What's next: Ahmadzai was given a trail monitoring requirement for six months and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. An order was also enforced for the destruction of his mobile phone.

What they're saying: Detective Sergeant Mark Cotton, from the Suffolk Internet Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: "Offences relating to indecent images are not victimless crimes; every image depicts sexual abuse against a real child."

"Whilst this investigation has not resulted in a custodial sentence, the public can be assured that Ahmadzai has been handed strict restrictions specifically designed to prevent further offending."

He added: "In addition to having his movements tracked continuously by GPS, Ahmadzai is prohibited from accessing the internet without storing the search history, from deleting any search history and from possessing any device capable of storing digital images unless it is made available for examination by police.

"The conditions imposed upon Ahmadzai mean that he will continue to be monitored for the next 10 years."

The bottom line: Suffolk Constabulary said it remains committed to protecting children from harm and continues to work in partnership with the National Crime Agency to identify and prosecute those who upload indecent images of children and communicate with children online.
