Why it matters: David Landin was already subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he breached its terms, with police saying the case demonstrates how court orders are used to monitor offenders and protect the public.

The details: Landin, of Foxhall Road, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday, 29 April, charged with two counts of breaching his SHPO and three counts of possessing indecent images of children.

  • He was arrested on 1 April 2026 after police discovered he had a social media account that he had not disclosed to officers, breaching the terms of his order.
  • Officers attended his address and seized his phone. Examination identified over 15,000 messages relating to child sexual abuse, alongside evidence of deleted messages and search history related to indecent images of children.
  • Printed copies of indecent images were also found hidden in his bedside drawers, comprising three Category A images, four Category B images and 12 Category C images.
  • He was subsequently charged on 2 April 2026.

For context: Landin was convicted in 2023 for attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, receiving a suspended sentence and a 10-year SHPO. He had been managed by Suffolk Constabulary's Public Protection Unit since.

What's next: In addition to his two-year sentence, the court ordered the destruction of his mobile phone and handed him a revised Indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

What they're saying: Public Protection Unit Officer Alice Barham said: "Landin is a disturbing individual with a clear interest in the sexual abuse of children.

"Court orders such as Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are there to protect the public. Our Public Protection Unit at Suffolk Constabulary ensures offenders on a SHPOs are closely monitored and adhere to the conditions imposed on them.

"Accessing or downloading indecent images of children is not a victimless crime. Each image represents a child that has been abused. We will continue to bring those who possess and share such content to justice."

The bottom line: Landin's two-year sentence and revised indefinite order mark the latest enforcement action by Suffolk's Public Protection Unit, which says it will continue to monitor registered offenders and pursue those who breach the terms set to protect the public.
