How to take part in Saturday's Midnight Walk at Christchurch Park
Supporters can still sign up on the day for St Elizabeth Hospice's Midnight Walk this Saturday, 16 May, with on-the-day tickets costing £35 for adults and £15 for children.
Why it matters: The hospice's flagship fundraiser is the charity's biggest fundraising night of the year, with sponsorship money helping to fund care for people of all ages living with life-limiting illness across the region.
The details: This year's event has a superhero theme, with the hospice encouraging participants to don their favourite costumes for the sponsored walk.
- Walkers can choose between a 6-mile or 9-mile route, both starting and finishing at Christchurch Park.
- The route will take walkers up to the hospice grounds, where they will be invited to write messages in memory of loved ones on a Memory Wall.
- From there, the route continues through Ipswich, passing landmarks including Ipswich Town Hall and the Regent Theatre.
- The walk starts at 21:00, with entertainment from sponsor Knights Lowe from 19:00.
By the numbers: On-the-day tickets are priced at £35 for adults (18 and above) and £15 for children aged 10 to 17.
- Ticket cost covers the running of the event, with sponsorship money going directly to the charity.
- £85 in sponsorship could fund a one-to-one bereavement support session for a child or adult who has lost someone they love, the hospice says.
For context: St Elizabeth Hospice provides care for people of all ages living with life-limiting illness across East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, with more than 70% of its care delivered in people's own homes.
In the last year, 555 people aged 45 and under were supported by the hospice, a number the charity says continues to grow.
What to look out for: The routes use public roads and footpaths, with no road closures in place. The hospice says it is the participant's responsibility to follow the Highway Code and any instructions given by staff, volunteers and marshals.
The bottom line: Anyone wanting to take part in this year's Midnight Walk can sign up on the day at Christchurch Park.
