Golf day raises £11,000 for children's hospice charity
Golfers raised £11,000 for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) at a charity day at Fynn Valley Golf Club.
Why it matters: The charity cares for more than 700 children, young people and family members across the region, including around 190 at The Treehouse in Ipswich, where Gipping Construction is currently overseeing major expansion work.
The details: After hearing from EACH chief executive Kevin Clements, 20 teams of four took part in games of golf, while guests also took part in a raffle and charity auction.
Prizes included an Ipswich Town ball signed by the squad on the day they secured promotion, an Arsenal shirt signed by Thierry Henry, four-ball golf days, a helicopter flight with champagne, a rare vintage single malt whisky and afternoon tea at Milsoms.
During the auction, the Arsenal shirt sold for £700 to Calvin Beales, from CJB Scaffolding, who then resold it for £500 and donated the proceeds back to EACH.
What they're saying: "We're delighted to have raised £11,000 through hosting our first golf day at Fynn Valley," said Joe Butler, commercial director at Gipping Construction.
"It was a fantastic day, with the weather on our side, and we were incredibly grateful for the support from clients, consultants and subcontractors, all of whom contributed so generously.
"EACH is an outstanding charity, and over the past four months, we've developed a much deeper understanding of the vital work they do to support children and families across our region. We're proud to be able to support them."
Andy Laflin, managing director at Gipping Construction, added: "We're thrilled our first golf day was such a big success. Thank you to everyone who supported the event and made it so enjoyable - too many to list, but we couldn't do it without you."
Billie Nugent, EACH's senior corporate fundraiser for Suffolk, said she was "incredibly grateful" for Gipping Construction's support.
"To raise £11,000 through their first golf day is an amazing achievement, and it will make a real difference to children, young people and families supported by EACH," she said.
The bottom line: Gipping Construction's first golf day raised £11,000 for EACH, with the firm and the charity already working together on the expansion of The Treehouse in Ipswich.
