Drivers warned of closures ahead of Sunday's half marathon
Roads across Ipswich will start closing from as early as 04:00 on Sunday as the town hosts its fifth Half Marathon, with diversions and parking suspensions running into the afternoon.
Why it matters: The Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon returns on Sunday, 27 September, bringing a 13.1-mile route through the town centre, Holywells Park and the Waterfront, along with road closures, diversions and parking suspensions that will affect drivers across large parts of the town.
The details: Runners will head into the town centre and around Holywells Park, on to the Waterfront, up Wherstead Road and past The Strand, along the river towards the Orwell Bridge, before looping around Freston Village. They then return along The Strand, Wherstead Road, Grafton Way and Commercial Way to finish back on Constantine Road.
Road closures and diversions:
- Roads around the Ipswich Town FC stadium close from 04:00 on Sunday.
- All remaining closures along the route come into force from 08:30.
- Roads will reopen on a rolling basis between 10:15 and 15:00.
- Parking suspensions begin at 18:00 on Saturday, 26 September at Sir Alf Ramsey Way, Constantine Road, Ipswich Marina, Ipswich Road and Main Road, and lift between 11:00 and 13:30 on Sunday.
- Maidenhall diversion: via Burrell Road and Ranelagh Road.
- East to west diversion: via Foxhall Road, Grove Lane, St Helen's Street, St Margaret's Street, Crown Street, St Matthew's Street and London Road.
- Shotley diversion: via Ipswich Road and Main Road.

"We're asking drivers to be aware of road closures and diversions on Sunday 27 September, in the town centre and beyond, and parking suspensions in place on Saturday evening and Sunday morning."
