Why it matters: The portal is designed to improve how Attwells communicates and shares information with its clients, and forms part of the firm's wider commitment to using technology to improve the client experience.

The details: The partnership ran from January 2024 to September 2026, bringing together Attwells, the University of Essex and KTP Associate Sriteja Chilkamarri.

  • Chilkamarri, who holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Leeds, took responsibility for developing the portal from concept through to delivery.
  • He worked within Attwells to understand the practical requirements of a busy law firm and its clients before creating a solution tailored to those needs.

For context: KTPs are a long-established UK programme designed to help organisations innovate by bringing together a business, academic expertise and a suitably qualified graduate, known as a KTP Associate.

What they're saying: Laura Harrington-Rutterford, partner and chief operating officer at Attwells said: "The Knowledge Transfer Partnership has given us a fantastic opportunity to bring together legal expertise, academic support and technology to develop something specifically around the needs of our firm and our clients."

She added: "Technology is changing the way professional services are delivered, but for us innovation must always have a clear purpose. It should make things easier, clearer or more convenient for our clients and support our teams in delivering an excellent service."

Chilkamarri said: "Working on the Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Attwells and the University of Essex has given me the opportunity to apply my technical knowledge to a real business challenge and see the project develop from its earliest stages through to implementation."

He added: "I have really valued the support and guidance I have received throughout the KTP, particularly from Laura and the wider Attwells team."

What's next: Following the end of the KTP, Chilkamarri has joined Attwells as a permanent member of the team.

Harrington-Rutterford said: "We are delighted that the end of the KTP is not the end of Sriteja's journey with Attwells."

"I am very pleased to be continuing my career with Attwells and look forward to developing the portal further and contributing to the firm's future technology projects," Chilkamarri said.

The bottom line: The partnership shows how a business, a university and a graduate can work together to deliver new technology, with benefits that last beyond the partnership itself.
