The new café, bar and restaurant has opened its doors in the converted Burton and Sons warehouse at St Peter's Wharf, shortly after closing the Cosy Club lounge in the Buttermarket Centre.

Why it matters: Marinero Lounge brings additional dining choice to Ipswich Waterfront, contributing to the ongoing regeneration of the historic dockside area.

The timeline: Loungers first announced its intention to open the venue in November 2023, with planning permission granted in March 2024. The opening date was pushed back several times before the firm confirmed 2 July as the launch day.

The details: Over 11 months of conversion work has transformed the former Victorian warehouse, including installing a new roof while preserving the building's historic character. The venue operates from 9am daily, serving until 11pm Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

What's happening today: Marinero Lounge opened from 9am to 4pm for initial service before closing for a private launch party. The venue reopens to the public at 8pm, welcoming all customers.

The location: St Peter's Wharf sits at the heart of Ipswich Waterfront, with the Burton and Sons warehouse representing part of the area's industrial heritage now repurposed for modern hospitality.

The menu: Marinero Lounge offers all-day dining, including breakfast served throughout the day, with options ranging from a full English to shakshuka and buttermilk pancakes. The main menu features flatbreads, burgers made with dry-aged British beef, tapas dishes, and international options including Malaysian nasi goreng and Sri Lankan curry. The venue also offers special deals, including "Cheeky Monday" from 17:00 and "Tapas Tuesdays" from 17:00.

The bottom line: After nearly two years of planning and construction delays, Ipswich Waterfront has welcomed its new dining venue, combining historic architecture with contemporary restaurant offerings.
