Why it matters: The two-day event introduces a fresh festive experience to the town centre, showcasing local makers and performers whilst raising money for a children's hospice charity.

The details: The Christmas Fayre, organised by Ipswich Entertains, will officially open with Mayor of Ipswich Councillor Stefan Long , who has chosen EACH as one of his charities for his mayoral year. The event will feature:

  • Over 60 stalls selling handmade gifts, festive decorations and seasonal treats from local makers and traders

  • Live performances from local choirs, schools and community groups

  • Food and drink including mulled wine and winter favourites

  • A free festive trail across the Town Hall and Corn Exchange

  • Santa's Grotto for children

  • Special festive film screenings at King Street Cinema, including Elf and The Muppet Christmas Carol

What they're saying: Councillor Jane Riley, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for culture and customers, said: "Our first-ever Christmas Fayre in this iconic setting promises joy, entertainment and excitement for all ages. It's being held just days after the official switch-on of the Ipswich Christmas lights, so even more of a sparkling start to the holiday season right in the heart of town."

Ali Butler, EACH's senior community fundraiser for Suffolk and East Essex, said: "We're so grateful for the opportunity presented to us by the Mayor and Ipswich Borough Council to be part of this very special celebration. Visitors will have the chance to donate and take part in special craft activities to show their support for EACH."

By the numbers: Entry to the Christmas Fayre costs £2 for adults, with children under 14 admitted free. Santa's Grotto tickets cost £9.50 and must be booked separately.

What's next: The fayre opens at 14:00 on Friday, 21 November and runs until 19:00, then from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, 22 November. Organisers recommend pre-booking tickets online to avoid queues.

The bottom line: The first Ipswich Town Hall Christmas Fayre offers families an opportunity to kick-start the festive season with local shopping, entertainment and charitable giving, all within the town's historic civic buildings.
