Ipswich School has topped regional rankings for ten consecutive years

Why it matters: The decade-long streak demonstrates sustained academic performance and teaching quality at the school, which also ranks among the top 10 independent schools in East Anglia.

The details: The annual ranking, which compares independent schools across the country, also placed Ipswich School  in the top 10 for East Anglia. A total of 278 pupils sat examinations at the school in summer 2025, with 139 taking A Levels and 139 undertaking GCSEs.

What they're saying: Head Nick Gregory  said: "We are very proud indeed of this overall achievement, underpinned as it is by the individual stories of talent, hard work and tenacity of the 139 Ipswich School pupils who sat A Levels here in summer 2025 and the 139 who undertook GCSEs.

"The fact that it is the tenth consecutive year that Ipswich School has been ranked as the leading independent school in the area speaks volumes for the consistent and continued excellence of our teaching staff across 20-plus subject areas."

The bigger picture: The school attributes the ranking to its commitment to academic excellence, pastoral care and co-curricular programmes designed to develop pupils beyond examination results.

The bottom line: The school has maintained its position as the top-ranked independent school in Suffolk and north Essex since The Sunday Times rankings began placing it first in 2016.
