Why it matters: The Gary Logue Colorectal Cancer Nurse Award recognises nurses who make a significant impact on those affected by bowel cancer, provide exceptional care and show outstanding initiative.
The details: Charlotte Brown, clinical nurse specialist in colorectal oncology at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust based at Ipswich Hospital, won this year's award for nurses nominated by patients and their families.
The judges said they were "deeply touched" by the nomination for Charlotte.
"Through unwavering dedication and exceptional clinical care, Charlotte empowers her patients by providing compassionate and expert support," the judges said.
"Charlotte's tireless work and determination to do the best by her patients is evident in the lasting impact of her patients' care, enabling them to hold on to their worth and keep living well."
What she's won: Bowel Cancer UK ambassador Dr Anisha Patel presented the award to Charlotte at the National Colorectal Cancer Nurses Network annual education event on Tuesday, 30 September.
Charlotte has also received a £300 bursary which can be used towards professional development, training opportunities for her or her team, or enhancing the patient experience.
What they're saying: Claire Coughlan, clinical lead at Bowel Cancer UK, said: "We're incredibly proud to hear about the exceptional care, support and initiative shown by Charlotte at this year's Gary Logue Awards.
"Across the country, colorectal cancer nurses make an enormous difference to patients and their families though guiding them through what can be an incredibly difficult time in their lives. We are proud to continue to recognise and champion these nurses and thank them wholeheartedly for their work.
"Our huge congratulations go to Charlotte for her outstanding work in the last year, and her unfailing commitment to caring for and improving the quality of life of those affected by bowel cancer."
For context: The awards were established in memory of Gary Logue to honour the contribution he made to those affected by bowel cancer during his career. Gary worked for Bowel Cancer UK as a specialist nurse advisor and passed away in 2014.
The bigger picture: Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer, affecting both men and women. Around 44,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK.
The bottom line: Charlotte's award highlights the vital role specialist nurses play in supporting patients through cancer treatment, providing not just clinical expertise but compassionate care that helps patients maintain their dignity and quality of life during an incredibly challenging time.
